Shatter the Silence of Sexual Violence
At Christina’s Courage, we are preparing for a project in conjunction with Key West NOW, Womankind, and Domestic Abuse Shelters of Monroe County called “Take Back the Night”. Our organizations assist survivors of sexual assault by providing free services that include advocacy, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE), and therapeutic intervention throughout Monroe County.
TBTN is a global event that began in the 1970s to bring awareness to sexual assault and domestic violence. Our earliest activists protested the lack of safety for women. One of TBTN’s earliest protests was in 1973, at the University of Southern Florida, where a group of women dressed in black sheets, held broomsticks, and marched through campus demanding a women’s center.
Our event for Monroe County will be held on October 1, 2024, at 6:00 PM in Key West beginning at Bayview Park and we will walk down White Street to Higgs Beach for a moment of silence to honor survivors healing journeys.
In order to make a difference, we rely on the support of generous individuals and businesses in the community. We would be most grateful if you would consider providing a donation to our organization as well as attending Take Back the Night with us! All of our services are free to survivors seeking support, therefore donations go to supplies for our sexual assault nurse, upkeep of our center, and tools for therapeutic intervention with survivors.
