Description:

The target audience for this training is medical professionals (sexual assault nurse examiners, physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants), victim advocates and state prosecutors. 

The participant will leave the training with increased knowledge of cross-examination and improved testimonial skills thus aiding in the quality of justice in sexual assault cases. Medical professionals, victim advocates and state prosecutors who attend this training will be better prepared in sexual assault courtroom cases; therefore, benefitting all victims of crime.

Course Objectives

  • Understand the importance of the medical forensic exam evidence collection process and accurate case documentation.

  • Recognize the special concerns of motions, suppression hearings, and deposition testimony.

  • Understand the types of examination in court.

  • Testify and appear in court, in a professional manner.

  • Understand courtroom tactics used by defense attorneys.
