Domestic Violence Awareness Month
In the lead up to October, and with the challenges of COVID-19 still present, our programs drew upon their creativity in developing awareness and outreach activities for DVAM.
The staggering number of domestic violence offenses, since the start of the pandemic, continues to rise in Florida. As many survivors are still stricken by the effects of COVID-19, our sexual assault and domestic violence programs knew that raising awareness remains crucial.
Purple pajama parties, walk-a-thon fundraisers, and coffee sessions with advocates are just a few ways our centers have spread awareness this October. All month long, many staff are painting their nails and the whole town purple to spark conversations about domestic violence resources and ways to seek help.
With contact still limited, some programs have created month-long social media challenges and live virtual events to celebrate survivors and make them feel safe. We thank all program staff and advocates for their continuing efforts to provide communication and services to our communities.

FCASV’s First Virtual Summit
FCASV was thrilled to host its first-ever virtual conference September 30th - October 2nd. We had attendees from around Florida and some from even further away in other states. The three days included two insightful keynote presentations, more than fifteen training workshops (including two in Spanish), a fun trivia session, different self-care opportunities each day, and a powerful film panel discussion about our highlighted film The Rape of Recy Taylor. Thank you to our wonderful speakers and all those who made the FCASV conference a success! Please enjoy some snapshots from our Seeing & Believing in 2020 Virtual Summit.

FCASV’s 2020 Biennial Summit is behind us, and we are grateful to our dedicated staff, programs, advocates, and participants who made it a great success.
The Summit is a labor of love that brings programs and allies together every two years thanks to the hard work of FCASV's staff. From totally rearranging as a virtual Summit to sending the final thank you notes, and everything in between, FCASV staff members oversee every last detail of preparation and implementation.
In the midst of Summit duties, they never lost sight of their commitment to the anti-sexual violence movement in Florida, providing legal services to victims of sexual violence, responding to technical assistance requests from advocates and community allies, and strategizing ways to improve services for survivors. Thank you to everyone for committing yourselves every day to survivors, programs, and communities!
Resources for Students on Healthy Relationships
With the new school year in full swing, we reached out to our colleague Robin Graber from the One Love Foundation to offer some resources and guidance for young people as they navigate relationships. "Relationships are everywhere. They’re in the movies and TV shows we watch. They’re in the music we listen to. They’re all over social media. But just because they’re everywhere doesn’t mean they’re perfect. In fact, nobody’s relationship is perfect. What matters is whether they’re healthy. We all can learn to #LoveBetter and build healthier relationships."
One Love offers online video content and film-based trainings along with discussion guides to help spark conversations and empower young people. The website also features 10 Signs of Healthy Relationships and 10 Signs of Unhealthy Relationships.

40-Hour Adult/Adolescent SANE Training

The 40-hour SANE Training is geared toward medical professionals: APRNs, RNs, physician assistants and physicians. It is an approved International Association of Forensic Nurses course which adheres to the National Training Standards for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examiners for adults and adolescents.
