FCASV Provides Accessible Exam Tables and Emergency Contraception

SANE Program Announcement.png

To enhance inclusive services for victims of sexual assault, the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence (FCASV) is providing seven accessible medical exam tables to Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) programs run by certified sexual assault centers across the state. The tables allow for easier transfer from wheelchair to table and the height and leg support adjustments assist those who have difficulty with mobility and/or stability. These tables will be instrumental in providing accessible medical forensic exam services for survivors with limited mobility.

More than half of the state’s 31 certified sexual assault centers operate SANE programs in their communities, and FCASV is also providing each of these facilities with extra doses of emergency contraception for survivor care. In addition to evidence collection, the forensic exam process includes a medical response to address medication prophylaxis for sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy prevention. SANEs are specially trained to conduct medical forensic exams from a trauma-informed and victim-centered approach. Their compassionate care is a critical component in the holistic response to victims. All survivors deserve to receive care from trained professionals and support that honors their rights to choice and bodily autonomy.

Through our mission of ensuring survivors have access to high-quality services, FCASV will continue to provide resources that assist the provision of healthcare in Florida. We encourage you to visit our website for more FCASV news and to learn about our SANE program.
