Ruby McCollum "You Belong to Me" Film Screening & Panel Discussion

During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, FCASV hosted a film panel discussion about the Ruby McCollum case and the documentary You Belong to Me: Sex, Race and Murder in the South

In 1952, Ruby McCollum, a prominent Black woman, killed an esteemed white doctor, C. Leroy Adams, in Florida after suffering years of sexual abuse tied to practices in the Jim Crow South. The revelations that were uncovered shook the small city of Live Oak, prompting all to examine the intersection of race and sex and how these factors affect Black women in the criminal justice system.
