For those who work with victims and survivors every day, we understand the effects of this traumatizing crime on victims. However, myths and stigmas still surround the issue, and misunderstanding can confuse facts during court proceedings. In the past year, more victims and survivors have come forward to report abuse, and more criminal and civil court cases have been filed on behalf of victims than ever before. The Florida Council Against Sexual Violence is excited to bring this training opportunity to attorneys and expert in the field. Focusing on the use of expert witnesses to explain the effects of sexual violence perpetration at trial, this training is open to attorneys as well as experts in the field of victim response, such as sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs), therapists, counselors, law enforcement officers, and seasoned advocates. Our trainers, long time prosecutor Lorena Vollrath-Bueno and civil attorney Chris DelMarco, as well as our panel of experts with courtroom experience, will guide participants through the process of qualifying a witness in sexual violence cases, how experts can help your case, and what to expect when testifying in court.
If you have paid full registration fees for FCASV's Summit, email Theresa Prichard directly at email@example.com to register for this training. Expert Witness Training registration fees are waived for Summit attendees. If you are an advocate from a certified sexual assault program wanting to register for the Expert Witness Training, please have your supervisor contact Theresa Prichard at firstname.lastname@example.org. Advocates who would like to attend the training must have at least 5 years experience as a sexual assault victim advocate.
